Wellington Folk Festival - How to Get There PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 June 2008 17:23

The festival is held at the Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre in Moore’s Valley Road (go to the end of the road, just past the turn-off to Brookfield Lane) which is beyond Wainuiomata - about 40 minutes drive from central Wellington.

DRIVING

If you are driving, take State Highway 2 out of Wellington, take the Petone exit, follow signs to Wainuiomata, which is over the hill. Go through Wainuiomata, stick to the Main Rd (mind the speed camera), when you on the far outskirts of town take a left turn down Moore’s Valley Road (there’s a sign to Brookfields) – the turnoff is at a roundabout (it’s the last one, but of course you won’t know that…). Drive 6.5 kms down Moore’s Valley Road to the end and there you are at Brookfields. See the map below for more details. If you see anyone trudging along Moores Valley Road with a backpack (or waiting hopefully at the start of the road), please offer ‘em a ride if you’ve got space!

MAP

Google has a comprehensive map with driving instructions. Even if you are not driving, these instructions will give you an idea of how to get there.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The Stagecoach Flyer bus can take you from Wellington airport and the central city to Queensgate shopping mall in Lower Hutt, and from there you can get a bus to the Wainuiomata Coast Road - this should be close to the Moores Valley Road turnoff. From there you’ll be hitching - if you hold a clear sign saying “Folk Festival” you’ll be sure to get a lift. Otherwise it’s a long walk. Stagecoach Flyer goes from Wellington Airport to Queensgate shopping mall in the Hutt Valley. It’s an orange bus and its signs are orange. It only stops at a few central city stops.
